Couple of updates, and I've discovered eBay.
I've been poking around on eBay since the end of the summer. When I first looked
at eBay a year ago, I was scared off by the sheer number of items up for auction --
it was information overload. Also the prices for most things seemed to be insane.
Since then I've decided that the best way to use eBay is to decide ahead of time what
you want to buy and then look for it, instead of browsing.
So, I've targeted a few types:
- Pikes Peak Celica
- Pikes Peak Tacoma
- Ferrari 333SP
- Dodge Daytona Chanrger 1970
- SS Commodore (VT)
- Super Tuned
- Fandango
This new strategy has worked out great. I've limited my buying to a few cars a month
(well, after the initial binge) and so far have not had any really bad experiences.
Only one seller who wasn't clear on the fact that his PayPal wouldn't accept money
from a Canadian buyer.
As far as the actual cars go, I've obtained almost all of the Pikes Peak Celicas
made (including the variation for the first edition). There are at least a couple
that I am missing -- the 2000-205 car (the 'Slingshot' car, which may have also
been shipped in a Shark Gift Pack), the K-Mart CocaCola Race Team (which includes
a gold PPC), and a silver PPC which comes with a Pavement Pounder (I already have
the yellow variation of this car).
I've also obtained two real treasures: a 1977 Royal Flash in loose, good condition;
and an orange 1977 Royal Flash which is amazingly still on its blister card. The
white one has been a car I have been looking for since I started this HotWheels
hobby, it is a car I remember well from my childhood. A heavy, wide car with
rubber bumpers on the front and rear so you could blast it into things without
doing an excessive amount of damage with/to it.
There are still a ton more pictures to take and then put up, and there are still
all the cars from February which have not been processed. So there is still
much to do.
