Why such a long delay before showing new cars? It was partially psychological.
Oh, and this:
Back in February, I got a call from one of the guys I work with. He was having a productive
day at work reading the ott.forsale newsgroup, and saw group of HotWheels for sale. I took
down the information, gave the seller a call, and went over to check them out.
140-odd cars, various condition. $90.
I figured I'd get $90 worth of entertainment out of the lot, so I paid him.
Now I had a problem. I only have about 200 or so cars, so 140 represented more than
a year's worth of collecting, to be processed all in one go. This was a huge barrier
to me, since I didn't feel like I should be buying new cars before I processed these
older ones. This was partially assisted by the fact that most of the local vendors
seemed to be mired in a glut of 2002 series cars. This made the 2003 cars rare, and
since I was not seeing them, I could not see if I wanted them. So without the
pressure of new cars to process, I could merely look occasionally at the stack of
copy paper boxes over in the corner of my office periodically, think I should
really do something about those, and get back to whatever it was I was really
doing.
Anyways, I was finding a couple of 2003 cars I wanted recently, so now I feel the
pressure to deal with the older ones. But because I want to play with the new ones,
I'm opening some of them early and putting them up too.
So over the next little while I'll be doing some of this huge batch in a now-and-then
fasion.
There is also the problem of what to do with some of the older cars:
These four cars are between six and ten years old, and I'd
really like to open three of them. However, they are about
the only thing in the collection which even might be worth
more than $1, so I'm reluctant. The eBay research I did suggests
that they are not worth terribly much, but I'm sure the right person
would pay for them. I'd be willing to trade the sealed cars for
open cars of the same type, plus something "interesting"... but
that kind of deal is kind of hard to put together.
Anyways, there should be a little more activity on the website
over the next little while. (I still have four 2002/2003 cars
un-opened for next time.)
